A network of activist groups financially tied to pro-China tech tycoon Neville Roy Singham held coordinated protests in Austin and New York this week, spanning immigration, climate, AI, and anti-Israel demonstrations, as lawmakers warn China could exploit the appearance of U.S. unrest ahead of Trump’s talks with Xi Jinping.
Republican Reps. Jason Smith and John Moolenaar raised concerns that the groups’ grassroots framing masks substantial funding infrastructure, questioning their tax-exempt status; Fox News Digital previously reported Singham funneled roughly $285 million into six major nonprofits and media outlets, including CodePink and the People’s Forum.
The DOJ’s Southern District of New York has reportedly convened a grand jury investigating Singham’s network for potential wire fraud, bank fraud, or money laundering, though he hasn’t been charged and hasn’t been shown to have directed the protests personally.
Fake “Palestinian” activist outed as affluent white teacher of Israeli heritage
Philadelphia teacher Hannah Gann admitted she fabricated a mixed-race, Palestinian-Tunisian identity for years while actually being white and of Israeli, Jewish heritage, confessing on Instagram that she is a “white woman of significant privilege and wealth.”
Gann wrote on Instagram: “I lied about my identity and have been lying for years. I have no Palestinian or Tunisian heritage. I am a white woman of significant privilege and wealth. Anyone who supported me was manipulated and should not be judged as a result of their support for me.”
Gann was confronted by members of two local activist groups, the Racial Justice Organizing Committee and Philly Educators for Palestine, who said she admitted the deception after roughly an hour of questioning and called the revelation a “betrayal.”
Gann had presented herself as Palestinian-American in prior activism, including at a 2024 Philadelphia event, and said she hid the truth from everyone in her life, including her own family, prompting some to dub her the “Palestinian Rachel Dolezal” after the woman who similarly misrepresented her race.
El-Sayed’s 2012 letter backed Muslim Brotherhood “purge” of press and police
Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed was among 46 signatories on a 2012 Arabic-language statement urging then-Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi to “purge the media and police” following his Muslim Brotherhood-aligned power grab, according to the letter published on Al-Ahram Gate.
A crackdown on journalists followed Morsi’s actions, with reporters facing charges like “insulting the president” before he was ousted in a 2013 military coup that led Egypt’s new government to ban the Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.
El-Sayed had defended the Muslim Brotherhood as early as 2011 in op-eds arguing the group posed no real threat, a stance analysts say raises questions about his judgment given the organization’s ties to extremist ideology; his campaign did not respond to requests for comment on the letter.
