It seems as more and more of the establishment Democrats are on their way out, the new wave of Democratic Socialists, a.k.a communists, are emboldened to proudly display their disdain for the United States.
Our most recent example comes from Claire Valdez, who is the Democratic nominee for New York’s 7th congressional district. Since her district is made up of parts of Brooklyn and Queens, she is sure to win her election in November.
To mark Mexican Independence Day, which is on September 16th, not Cinco de Mayo, Valdez said the following:
“215 years ago, Mexicans fought an empire that demanded our land and our labor. And we won. I’ll carry that fight with me to Congress as New York’s first Mexican American representative.
“And I’m strengthened not just by Mexico’s history but its present. Last month I met comrades in Morena who are standing up to the empires and corporations that have always taken from us – and building a government for the working class. ¡Viva la Independencia, Viva México!”
The post from Valdez, who is originally from Texas and does have Mexican heritage, was alarming for many reasons.
Valdez first uses “we” in the context of Mexicans fighting the Spanish Empire. Not “they” or “Mexicans,” but “we.” Using that “we,” she then says she will use that as an example for how she will act in Congress.
Valdez then uses the communistic phrasing of “comrades” to describe her meeting with representatives who are part of the ruling party in Mexico.
It is one thing to have a soft spot for a nation that your family has ties to, but it is another to proclaim your nationality and “fight” belongs to a country you do not live in while wanting to be part of another nation’s governing body.
Valdez’s decision to flaunt her ties with Morena at this time is especially curious given the U.S. Department of Justice has charged multiple, high level Morena politicians and operatives for colluding and protecting the Sinaloa Cartel. The U.S. State Department has likewise revoked the visas of other Morena public officials, seemingly for similar concerns.
Given how she views herself as a Mexican first, it should be no surprise how she decided to commemorate the United States’ 250th Independence Day:
“Freedom is only possible when we have the conditions for the good life — healthcare, housing, education, and dignity on the job. But the system is rigged and our planet poisoned by billionaires, bosses, and war profiteers.
“This 4th of July we recommit ourselves to remaking it. To fight for liberation from Palestine to Puerto Rico, for a Green New Deal, for the world we deserve.”
It’s like a jumbled mess of progressive causes that forgets it is supposed to be about one topic, but it is not like Valdez can help herself. She is a “good” comrade and will not waste an opportunity to trash the nation she chooses to live in while elevating a foreign government.
She will not be alone in Congress and she certainly won’t be the last.
