Gavin Newsom says he won’t run for president if Kamala Harris runs
Gov. Gavin Newsom told CNN’s Jake Tapper he wouldn’t run for president in 2028 if Kamala Harris entered the race, arguing a competing run would amount to “mutual assured destruction” given their overlapping bases of support.
Newsom pushed back when Tapper noted Harris had already lost two presidential bids, insisting their shared coalition of supporters made a simultaneous run pointless for both.

JD Vance announces 870,000 people suspected of COVID era fraud
VP JD Vance said the Trump administration will suspend roughly 870,000 people suspected of defrauding pandemic-era small business programs from receiving future federal loans, tied to an estimated $39 billion in suspected fraud across 45 states, according to SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler. Combined with prior actions, suspensions now cover roughly $49 billion in alleged fraud nationwide.
A DOJ enforcement push dubbed the “Heartland fraud surge,” running June through September, resulted in actions against more than 160 defendants tied to roughly $245 million in intended losses, involving schemes like fabricated businesses and false payroll records. Attorney General Todd Blanche said 500 prosecutors nationwide are now focused on pandemic-fraud cases.
The SBA has referred over 560,000 suspected fraudulent borrowers, tied to about $22 billion in delinquent loans, to the Treasury for collection. Officials say expanded resources and a new National Fraud Detection Center are enabling prosecutors to pursue cases involving loans issued years ago, with the statute of limitations extended to 2030 or 2031.
