Ortega Ruiz faces up to life in prison.
Friesenhahn, now paralyzed and able to speak only in a whisper after 15 surgeries, said he was grateful he stood up to the gunman; his sister called the verdict only partial justice given his permanent injuries and criticized the justice system’s repeated leniency toward Ortega Ruiz.
Ortega Ruiz, who entered the U.S. illegally, had been arrested multiple times since 2020 — including for DWI and a separate assault allegation — but repeatedly missed court dates or received light sentencing. He also faces federal firearm charges, and ICE has lodged a detainer against him.

Bolivia tests Trump’s Shield of the Americas amid unrest fears
Bolivian Defense Minister Ernesto Justiniano told Fox News Digital the country’s escalating security concerns represent an early test of Trump’s Shield of the Americas initiative, saying while there’s no confirmed coup plot, serious warning signs have prompted preventive troop deployments to strategic routes and infrastructure.
