A lot of attention has been given to Congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar, who represents a Latino-heavy district in south Florida, after she released an ad criticizing President Trump’s strict immigration policies and said things need to change.
“Mr. President, some of your immigration enforcement efforts have gone too far,” Salazar said outside the White House, going on to claim that, “The same Hispanics who helped you get to the White House in 2024 feel betrayed today.”
Salazar points to how 50 percent of people who were arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had no criminal record beyond being illegally present in the country.
She then says she is not talking about giving illegal aliens amnesty, but to give people a “dignified life in this promised land.”
Salazar is the author of the DIGNITY Act (H.R.4393) and has pushed the bill before, drawing intense backlash from conservatives. While Salazar claims the bill does not give illegal aliens amnesty, it would give illegal aliens amnesty.
The congresswoman is just one example as to how some within the Republican Party have bought into the revisionism pushed by the Democrats since Trump started his second term.
Ever since ICE has increased the number of arrests of people who do not have a lengthy criminal record, Democrats claim Trump is not following his promise to arrest the “worst of the worst.”
This would make sense if he did that, but he and many other people on his campaign made no such promise to only arrest hardened criminal illegal aliens. It is also something that voters were not asking for because they wanted all illegal aliens gone in response to the Biden-Harris border crisis.
Time and again, Trump and staffers like Stephen Miller and Tom Homan said during the 2024 campaign that, if elected, the administration would go after every person who is in the country illegally. Famously, the mainstream media had a hissy fit over rally signs during the Republican National Convention that called for mass deportations.
It’s not like the media did not report on those promises for mass deportations. Headline after headline during the 2024 campaign was basically fear-mongering about the prospect. Anyone who was barely paying attention knew there was going to be a major change to immigration enforcement.
And ever since the second Trump administration started, those same people have constantly reiterated that while they will go after hardened criminals, everyone is “on the table” to be removed from the country.
I have personally seen during ICE operations when officers go after a target and find other people without legal status during the encounter and take those people into custody as well. That would not have happened during the Biden-Harris administration.
The whole reason why other Republicans are upset at Trump on immigration is not because they believe in this liberal revisionism, but because they think he has not followed through on mass deportations.
It is crazy to see people today claim that Trump’s not-so-secret plan to go after all illegal immigrants is somehow a surprising development. But it is the latest trick Democrats are pulling to further jam up operations by turning public sentiment against DHS.
