Watch:
The California gubernatorial debate between Republican Steve Hilton and Democrat Xavier Becerra was what you expected: Hilton provided actual policy ideas to fix the state’s many problems while Becerra just said President Trump’s name over and over again.
A humorous incident following the debate involved longtime Democrat official Susan Rice. Rice was most recently part of the Biden-Harris administration where she served as head of the Domestic Policy Council, meaning she had crossed paths with Becerra when he was secretary of Health and Human Services.
It was reported at the time that Becerra was not particularly popular among top Biden officials as they saw him as too incompetent for his position. Hilton was quick to remind Becerra of those stories.
“According to your Democrat colleagues, the ones who worked with you, like Susan Rice…she described you as an ‘idiot,’ she called you, ‘bitch ass.’ Why did Susan Rice, a respected political leader, call you an idiot?” Hilton asked during the debate.
Axios also reported Rice did more than call out Becerra in front of people. Rice passed a note to then-DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas that said “don’t save him” when Becerra was being grilled about the border crisis during a cabinet meeting.
Does Steve Hilton still have a real chance to win?
Steve Hilton is clinging to a 3.9% chance of victory in the California Governor’s race according to Kalshi prediction markets. Despite dominant debate performances, Hilton’s common sense conservative platform may just not be palatable to deep-blue Californians at the moment.

Rice has let her apparent disdain of Becerra publicly known even long after they are done working together. She shared an X post from a Las Vegas media figure that said Becerra’s T.V. interview was “one of the most pathetic things I have ever seen” due to his cagey and defensive performance about his record.
However, since Hilton mentioned Rice’s past comments about his opponent, she apparently has a change of heart.
“Make no mistake, I support [Xavier Becerra] for CA Gov. So stop using my name against him,” Rice said on X after the debate.
What makes Rice’s recent statement funny is she does not deny that she said the things that were reported. If she truly supported Becerra and wanted to dispel any notion of his ability to be governor, this would have been a great opportunity to do so.
Instead, Rice simply said she is voting for the guy she called a “bitch ass” because of his incompetence.
This is yet another example that when Democrats called Trump or MAGA voters “cultists,” it is actually a confession to how they operate. No one can say with a serious face that Becerra’s leadership at HHS was a success.
Not only did his agency lose track of hundreds of thousands of minors who crossed the border during the crisis, the fraud related to HHS programs went unchecked. HHS under the Trump administration has been busy cleaning up the mess Becerra and his staff left behind.
But since Becerra has a (D) next to his name, it is nearly certain he is on his way to the governor’s mansion in Sacramento to continue the failed policies of Democrats in the once-great state of California.

Patently and proveably not true about jobs. He's equating "hiring" with "creating." Politicians can be responsible for the climate within which businesses feel enabled to do more hiring, thus creating jobs.
